Lordswood RFC Ethos.
Lordswood RFC was created by few dedicated players over 30 years ago, who had a vision to play rugby in the spirit of the game of,
Loyalty, Obligation, Respect, Discipline and Sportsmanship
with the utmost goal of the fun of participation. We as a committee some 30 years on, will up hold that dream, as we believe that the sport of rugby is born from these virtues.
We as a committee are chosen and trusted by the players to support and develop all players. All committee members are volunteers drawn from past players and members who enjoy watching the game, who give up their time for the betterment of the rugby club. The committee must be viewed as the conscience of the club and is charged with upholding the ethos of the game. With this in mind, we the committee have constructed a players charter that outlines Lordswood Rugby Club’s philosophy.
Members and Spectators.
All rugby members, spectators and committee will uphold the rugby club’s ethos of Loyalty, Obligation, Respect, Discipline and Sportsmanship (LORDS) in their code of conduct.
Loyalty can be defined in many ways, devotion, constancy, allegiance, and faithfulness to mention a few, and all imply a sense of duty or of devoted attachment to something or someone. This is our foundation at Lordswood RFC. We are not just team players; we are friends and a surrogate family which creates a lasting bond for players who embrace the true love of rugby, so encompassing our meaning of loyalty.
In joining Lordswood RFC, members are obliged to adhere to the values and ethos of the club. This includes a commitment to play by arrangement, supporting the club captain and other players, and abiding by the rules of the game.
All members of Lordswood RFC must commit to the code of conduct as set by the committee. At the heart of this code is respect for all officials on and off the pitch and at all times. Mutual respect must prevail for all players, spectators and all connected with Lordswood RFC and all members, spectators and officials of opposing clubs, and those involved in the wider rugby community. Members of the club represent the club on and off the pitch and in their wider communities therefore they must maintain respect for others in their conduct at all times.
Lordswood RFC view discipline very seriously. Members must be disciplined to put the good of the club before their own desires. They must be disciplined in their adherence to the rules of the game, and in their conduct.
Sportsmanship is the foundation upon which rugby union is built, born from fair play, respect for opponents, and polite behaviour by someone who is competing in the sport, also graciousness in winning or losing. We uphold the rugby tradition of camaraderie with teammates and opposition. We play to win but not at all costs, and recognise both endeavour and achievement. We ensure that the wellbeing and development of individual players is central to all rugby activity.
