Playing in Mid Kent A the second team have on occasion found themselves playing teams of a similar standard to first team opposition this year and their mid table position reflects well on their performance.
The twos have a core supplied by former colts members and have welcomed in younger players and are helping to develop them to play regular first team rugby while still providing a challenge for the more committed older players not yet ready for the leisurely third team style. For the first time in a number of years members of the second team are challenging established first team players for their positions which is what a club needs to continue to develop.
Many, if not most, of the second team players have had a chance to play in the first team and hopefully by the end of the season everyone will have had a chance to lay down their claim to a first team spot.
The second team have shown a lot of interest in developing young players through the club and will, hopefully, soon birth a new junior section committee to allow even more youth development through the summer months with the aim of fielding a colts side in the near future.
